Is six hours of wedding
photography enough?
It depends on your ceremony time, travel between locations and how much of the reception you want photographed. Start with those details before deciding.
One example: 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
This is an illustrative schedule, not the timeline of the wedding pictured on this site. It assumes a 4 p.m. ceremony, nearby or shared locations and a reception that begins soon afterward. Adjust the times with your venue and other vendors.

What might fall outside that window?
Early hair and makeup, a late-night exit or dancing after 8 p.m. would not be covered in this example. Travel and delays also use part of the six hours.
If you prefer to see each other for the first time at the ceremony, move the pre-ceremony portraits later and allow enough time for family photographs afterward. That will change how much reception coverage fits.
Plan around what you want to keep.
- Write down the events you most want photographed.
- Confirm ceremony and reception times with your venue.
- Include travel, family photograph groupings and a little breathing room.
- Check when sunset falls on your actual wedding date before setting portrait times.
